Ex Libris, in Latin, means "this book belongs to...". The owner's name is then artistically combined with the person's characteristics, profession, or hobbies.

An ex libris is a stamp or label with artistic content that has been reproduced using any engraving technique and is often placed on one of the first pages of a book as a mark of ownership by individuals or institutions.

To be considered an ex libris, this small artistic work must contain the Latin abbreviation "ex libris" or a similar indication, followed by the name of the owner of the books in which it will be inserted.

It usually also includes the artist's signature and the date of its creation. The artistic content often identifies some of the qualities or hobbies of the owner.
